Parks and Recreation in Aurora

The Fox Valley Park District manages over 2,500 acres of park space within Aurora and the surrounding communities of Montgomery and North Aurora. Surrounding the beautiful Fox River, this district operates 165 Parks and 48 miles of regional trails that connect the cities. The Fox Valley Park District has been awarded the National Gold Medal Award for excellent park and recreation management! There are many excellent parks located within Aurora. The favorite community park is RiverEdge Park (360 North Broadway). There are many excellent facilities within this park including a pier, riverwalk, bike path, and the Indian Creek wetland. The highlight of the park is John C. Dunham Pavilion. This 10-acre venue is used for excellent outdoor music concerts during the warmer months of the year. Philips Park also offers many amenities for residents. This is the site of the Phillips Park Zoo (1000 Ray Moses Drive), which houses approximately 100 animals, and the Philips Park Family Aquatic Center (828 Montgomery Road). The park district also operates great recreational programs throughout the year. It is easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle in Aurora with all of the excellent facilities. Vaughn Athletic Center (2121 West Indian Trail) is a community facility that houses a fitness center, exercise studios, aquatic center, and indoor tennis center, allowing for recreation all year round.

Education in Aurora, Illinois

There are many school districts that educate the students in Aurora. Many of these districts are recognized statewide and nationally for their academic excellence and extracurricular offerings. East Aurora School District 131 serves the east side of the city and operates 16 early childhood/elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 2 high schools. The schools on the west side of Aurora are operated by West Aurora School District 129, which includes 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 1 high school. Residents living throughout the rest of the city are educated at school districts that operate within Aurora and several surrounding communities. These districts include Batavia Public School District 101, Indian Prairie School District 204, Batavia Public School District 101, Kaneland Community Unit School District 302, and Oswego Community Unit School District 308. There are also several institutions of higher learning within Aurora. Aurora University (347 South Gladstone Avenue) is a private, four year- liberal arts college. Waubonsee Community College has two locations in Aurora at 18 South River Street and  2060 Ogden Avenue.

Health and Transportation in Aurora

Aurora has many medical facilities located right within the city for residences to use. Along with several urgent care clinics and family medicine practices, there are excellent hospitals in Aurora. Presence Mercy Medical Center (1325 North Highland Avenue) provides comprehensive medical services. It is recognized for its Cardiovascular Institute. It also has a certified Primary Stroke Center and Level II trauma center. Rush-Copley Medical Center  (2000 Ogden Avenue) is another full inpatient hospital that offers excellent medical services for its patients.

Aurora is conveniently located along Interstate 88. This route provides easy commuting options for residents to travel to Chicago and the throughout the wider metropolitan area. For residents not wanting to drive to downtown Chicago, they can utilize the BNSF Railway from Aurora’s Metra Station (233 North Broadway). To travel longer distances for business or pleasure, there are two large airports located nearby. O’Hare International Airport (10000 West O’Hare Avenue, Chicago) is a 40 minute drive away and Chicago Midway International Airport (5700 South Cicero Avenue) is located 55 minutes away.
